The Get in Gear 10,000 Meter Racewalk
was held in Minneapolis Minnesota.
on April 24, 1999. The event was a 10,000 meter judged racewalk. This was the first year
that the Get In Gear event included a racewalk division. Again, world travelers, Doug and Marie VanMeer
went to participate and to carry the banner of Racewalkers Northwest. Other competitors
included Michael and Michelle Rohl which completed their 10,000 meter
race walk in 45 minutes 58 seconds and 45 minutes 59 seconds respectively.

This year, Doug and Marie have carried Racewalkers Northwest banner to Boston and Minneapolis.
The 1999 Tax-A-Derby 1040 was held at the Lincoln Track in Portland, Oregon USA
on Sunday April 17, 1999. The race allowed participants to relax and have fun in a fast paced 1040 meter racewalking
event to celebrate completing and mailing tax returns. The day was sunny with a dry track and perfect race time temperature.
Although the race is non-sanctioned, it was judged according to IAAF rules.
All participants performed at some of their fastest times.

The Bridge to Bridge
was held in Portland Oregon
on April 11, 1999. The event has 5,000 meter and 8,000 meter races. Each participant's timing was
done by a timing chip for accuracy. Although the Bridge to Bridge is a running
event, Rob Frank participated as a racewalker in the 8,000 meter race which included
several steep inclines.

USATF National Master's Indoor Track & Field
Championship, held at the Reggie Lewis Facility, Boston, Massachusetts,
Saturday March 27, 1999. The event was hosted by the TRACS and the Boston Running Club.
American and World records were broken over and over in one of the most exciting racewalk competitions.

The Top O'Tabor Racewalking Championships were held on the only volcano located in a USA city limits. The Top O'Tabor Racewalking Championship is a 3,000 meter event. For some fun, there were 5 members from Racewalkers Northwest that participated in the Shamrock Run 8K meters on March 14, 1999 that was held in Portland Oregon. Each Racewalkers Northwest member performed as a racewalker ( with the exception of George and his soft knee ) and by the end of 8000 meters had passed many runners. The winning 8KM male runner completed the course in 24 minutes and 13 seconds and the fastest female runner finished in 27:55.

There were 2 members from Racewalkers Northwest that participated in the Shamrock Run 5K meters on March 14, 1999 in Portland Oregon. Again each Racewalkers Northwest member performed as a racewalker and by the end of 5000 meters had passed many runners.

in the 1500 meter Racewalk on February 7, 1999. Each Racewalkers Northwest member won first place at the level they competed.

And yes, it was cold besides -- but the reward of a chocolate truffle made it all worthwhile!
